Taken on a recent visit to Taronga. I purposly didn't crop as I like the foliage in the upper left and above the lion. It's not as shar as I'd like, but it was on the camera I am using till I replace my stolen gear.

Very nice :) And I actually like the soft look, it gives it a very painting-like quality, especially the soft edges of the mane vs the very quiet background.

Thank you, it is one of my favourite shots, just a standard portrait, but I like the way everything just seemed right once I clicked the shutter. Considering I was shooting through glass at a subject a very long way away with a camera that has less than ideal features it hasn't turned out too bad.

It looks like he is posing for a studio shot - what is his name? Great photo too and I like the way you have left the foliage too.

I have to ask the keepers what his name is, spent time with the ape keepers so didn't talk to big cat people. i have some of one of the lionesses in the same enclosure, will be putting one up soon.

In that case you did very well :) Getting any sense of depth of field in a shot from a distance like that is pretty difficult - just lucky the stone wall behind him seems to be just the right texture that it's not too busy but still has SOME texture.

And there's no trace of anything that looks like a reflection through the glass either :)
